As the name ‘Searchme’ suggests, it is yet another name in the category of search engines which makes an attempt to change the way search things on the internet. Searchme enables the user to dig out the desired information in an intuitive manner. Once you start typing the keyword for your search, the engine provides all the related search categories from which you can choose the one you want. As the category is chosen, the search engine presents some web pages that can answer your search. The information is presented in the form of colored picture slides. The user can view the entire search options on one single page. The site claims to introduce an all new way of web searching. In addition to the different categories of search like Business News, Cricket, Stocks, History, European Union etc; the site also features the image search, web search, and video search options. However the user can access Searchme.com only if the Flash Player is installed in their system. Searchme also features "Stack" option. One can pile up one's favorite news, movies, videos and other web material in the form of stacks and can then send them to their friends via emails. All one needs to do is find the stack option on the home page and then follow the instructions. The users are asked to "create new stack" and drag the desired item (news/ movies/ videos) to the stack after selecting it. This enables the user to keep a neat and clean account of all their favorite items and search results. However, the stacks option is depended on the flash player cache, which when deleted will delete the stacks also. Due to the dependency on flash memory cache, users cannot access their stacks on different computers.Show more screenshots »
Searchme was established in the year 2008, with an aim to revamp web searching. SearchMe closed down in July 2009.
Searchme has introduced an all new way of web browsing by presenting the "search slides" instead of search pages. The home page is pretty spacious as compared to other search engines which have bombarded the front page with heavy information. Searchme also features "stack" that allows the user to save their search results in a clean and categorized format.
The outlook of the search engine seems a bit gothic. The black background looks quite mysterious and unattractive. The home page of the site is not quite aesthetically appealing. The all black screen of the search engine makes it quite impossible for the user to view the content clearly. Even the navigation keys are not clear enough, the dim colors make it more difficult to locate them, and this gives a bad impression on the first time user. Though the selection of colors is not up to the mark, but the site is designed exactly the way a search engine should have been. Though the home page seems quite unwelcoming, nevertheless, it is clean and clear with relevant information. One good thing is that the home page of the site is not overloaded with unnecessary information. It is pretty blank and has five navigation keys.
There is no registration process as such and one can start the search immediately after the site is opened. Registration is needed only if one wishes to participate in other applications offered by the search engine.
The services of the site are absolutely free of cost and one try them without venturing even a single penny. Registration does need fee.
Well, the site has no special features as such, that can be recommended to anybody. It has a possibility of coming across as a time consuming search engine and the user may end up feeling frustrated. The layout is good for a "Gothic" website, but it is not at all suitable from the point of view of a search engine. The dark background, teamed up with vibrant colored content makes it more irritating because the colors hit the eyes. Though the site has some not-so-good elements, and the overall structure is to an extent not user friendly. On the brighter side the idea of a spacious home page is pretty good, as most of the sites nowadays have started overloading the pages with irrelevant information.
